Although James' comments were, in general, right on the money, the
statement above is incorrect. ALL merit badge counselors MUST be
registered as merit badge counselors, and approved by the council or
district advancement committee before they may counsel for any badge.
There is NO CHARGE to register as only a merit badge counselor, but they
must fill out the standard adult application No. 28-501 (for position
code 42), and the merit badge counselor information form Either the
national form No. 33405, or a local council's version of that form.
The examples he gave above would undoubtedly be approved as counselors,
but they must apply.
