When I took over as Scoutmaster nine years ago the troop had a few old
tents. As Scouts joined the troop, they purchased their own for
campouts.
As time went on we had families that couldn't afford the expense of
purchasing a tent along with all of the personal equipment a Scout had
to acquire. With a number of successful fundraisers, our committee
decided to purchase "Troop tents." These tents are available to any
Scout or adult that wishes to join us on a campout.
To help cover costs of future repairs that might be needed to be done to
the tents we ask that each person pay a small fee of five dollars for
the weekend. This money usually goes towards buying new tent stakes to
replace lost ones or maybe another ground cloth.
Other Scouts and parents that have their own tents can still bring them
on the outings. The only thing we frown upon is the large tents. We try
to tent by patrol and limit the number to two people per tent.
