The best one-pot meals I've ever had were made by sealing the different
things in plastic bags, and then boiling them in water... I thought the
bags would burst, but if you push as much air out of the bag as you can
before you seal it (with one of those heat-cutters), it will have enough
room to expand (since you are boiling it, the temp never goes above 100 C,
so the steam reaches a fixed volume, and stops expanding after a few
minutes. You can cook pasta sauce in these baggies in the same pot that
you are boiling your noodles in. Efficient on fuel, and easy clean-up. It
also allows you to prepare the meals beforehand, since they are sealed with
little air inside the bags, they stay fairly fresh. The only trouble is if
it is in the bag, it can't be dehydrated food.
