Chris,
Last year our OA chapter changed its meeting date/location to be the same
as the district R/T. Youth participation in the OA had been low and we hoped
that the adults who came would bring along the youth OA members. Then, as
the word got out to the units that the boys were really running the chapter
again, we figured that more boys would need rides from their own troops'
adults.
Well, it sort of worked; the boys have once again taken ownership of the
chapter, but the adults who bring them are also active OA members and they
stay with the OA meeting instead of taking part in the R/T. At least we
didn't draw adults away from the R/T (except for myself--as Associate Chapter
Advisor I feel that my place is with the OA, where I used to be a regular at
R/T).
And I should note that this is a chapter business meeting; except for
brief periods of working on regalia, all ceremonies team activity is done
outside of the chapter meeting.
