On similar situations:
1. My mother has carried a pair of folding scissors into the courthouses in
Illinois for years, never thinking about it, when she went to pay her
property taxes. She went through metal detectors and even had people search
her purse. The first time someone noticed was the last time she paid and they
put it aside for her to pick up on the way back.
2. When #1 son had his first auto accident they gave him the ticket, and we
measured where he was hit on the station wagon and decided to fight it. He
carried his coat from school because he had put on a sportcoat.
They wouldn't allow him to take his coat into the building. I have yet to
figure out how it could be a weapon, except to choke a judge with its sleeves.
3. And with the kid nervous as all get out, they almost didn't let me in at
all. Why?
My bionic wrist. Seems all the plates are assumed by the doctors to not be
enough to set off a metal detector but when the Feds clamp down because they
suspect there may be a terrorist attack they crank up the sensitivity on the
metal detectors to where a few ounces in my wrist made them think I had a
hidden weapon someplace.
I made them give me a note. I've used it in 4 airports and three court houses
and hate to consider what would happen if I ever had to spend more time in
the courthouses....
