I've participated in Crossovers from both sides of the bridge, as Scout,
Cubmaster, and Scoutmaster. The theme I've always kept is that the Cub
Scout trail is different from the Boy Scout trail, and that we need to
celebrate the successful end of one as well as the starting of the other.
Let the boys work on and get Scout once they start with the Troop.
Mind you, as a Scoutmaster, I do like to get the boys in March. I find you
need at least 3 campouts for most boys to get the requisite skills for
summer camp, and I definitely am a strong proponent for summer camp the 1st
year. But I can wait until March to start teaching the various parts of
the Scout rank.
