The talk about scouts dropping out after a poor experience at Philmont
reminded me to check on the scouts who participated in our NT expedition
in 1996.
Of eight youth, seven are now Eagle. The one who did not make Eagle (and
is now 18) always said that advancement was not really his "thing." He
simply enjoyed the activities! Interestingly, the first of the group to
make Eagle (and the youngest) dropped out within a year of the trip (moved
out of town and did not join another troop). The others stayed involved
until they turned 18 or left for college. Five are registered as ASMs.
Guess we had a good trip!
