Well, I haven't a clue as to where this practice started, but, I do know
that open fires are anathema to Leave No Trace LNT camping which is now as
much a part of Scouting as the oath and law. Scouts and fires are
inseparable and I wouldn't change that for the world, but, I do expect every
boy to know that in any place but campsites with fire rings cooking over
stoves; no open fires is the rule.
