As I recall, the car kit comes with a paper with basic instructions for
making the car along with basic derby rules. If there are national rules,
these would be them. However, they are not imposed on anybody. Many packs,
districts, and councils modify these rules -- usually with the intent of
reducing perceived unfairness to those who don't know the tricks like sanding
and profiling wheels, polishing axles, etc. In my opinion, more restrictive
rules should not be imposed. I think it's a good idea for boys to learn about
ways to enhance the efficiency of machines. Instead of restricting
creativity, how about letting all the parent-son teams in on the secrets?
