It seems to me that the only consequence is his father's disappointment.
One of the things that makes the rank of Eagle (or any goal in Scouting)
special is that no boy is, or should be, forced to attain it. This boy is
making his own choice and, like it or not, that choice is as valid as
choosing to pursue his Eagle. I tell my boys that however proud I will be
of their attaining the rank of Eagle, it is their choice and I will honor
and respect whatever they choose to do.

Sometimes the harder path is to choose what one wants to do rather than what
others, however much they are loved and respected , want you to do, it takes
character.
