This is one of those situations where we will have to agree to disagree. If I
followed your line of reasoning I am not sure our Charter Organization (St.
Timothy's - Hale School) would be able to function properly. The school holds
regular Episcopal Services every week. The school's student body prays (not
silently I should add) before any function. Everyone (parents and students)
understand the principles that the school is founded on. Yet, the student body
is NOT all Episcopal or even all Christian. Yet, the school flourishes. I remain
convinced that in an unwarranted efforts to be p.c. everyone suffers.
I attended a Parochial School in New Orleans. Yet, I was Lutheran. I attended a
First Friday Mass for four years. It was not really required - yet no one ever
missed. We were not a school of 100% Catholics either. The school is going on 50
years old - and still has never been challenged by Parents or Students.
Our unit is not all one religion, or even all one race. If a Scout or scouts is
uncomfortable with our Sunday he would not be required to attend. I find it
interesting that we have never had any complaints from Parents or Scouts - and
frankly doubt we ever will. This is, to me, one of those situations where if
everything is spelled out up front (like in the by-laws of the Troop) how can
anyone complain. Furthermore, the more we make out of this the more likely it is
that a weird problem occurs.
Regards
D
