A sad note as Houston's Troop 30 prepares for this months 75th anniversary
party. Charter member of the troop, Buck Froehner, passed away. Buck's dad
was the first Scoutmaster in 1925 and Buck later wrote in the Troops history
book that he and the other boys in the patrol decided to collect newspapers
to raise money for purchasing equiptment from the Sears Catalog. The
newspaper collecting is still going on, making it quite possibly the longest
running paper drive in Houston.

Buck fondly remebered duck hunting on ponds long since paved over, and
driving down country lanes now major thouroughfares. Buck was active with the
troop for most of his life and taught his profession to Scouts by teaching
the Beekeeping MB until it too, passed with the times. Because of his close
ties witht the Troop and St Marks UMC, Buck remained for many years as CR.
Our rechareter is due next month, guess we'll sadly have to find a new CR.

I remember him being introduced at one annual Troop banquet as "the man who
started all this and the one who would probably be around to clean it all up
after we are all gone". He was a fine man.
