We have an activity uniform that we wear most of the time. In fact the only time we wear the field uniform is at Council/District activities, clean public service projects, parades and courts of honor.

If we are only talking about money. Our unit has a uniform exchange that really helps those who cannot afford uniforms. We also have a district uniform exchange as well. Maybe these programs need to be encouraged in more areas.

It is also a long running tradition for Boy Scout aged youth to earn money to pay for their uniforms themselves, it is a learning experience for them, if they do that. After all, the pants don't cost more than most computer games.

I have found after talking with Scouts and parents it is seldom an issue of money...it is an issue of motivation.

We have to continue to ask ourselves, why is the field uniform one of the 8 methods of Scouting?

YiS,
Bill
