I don't think allowing a Webelos Den Leader to move up with their Den is
a good idea at all. If the WDL wants to move up as an ASM, then they
should work as ASM for Administration or Advancement, or anything but
ASM for the New Scout Patrol. The youth will adapt far faster than the
Leader will. An experienced ASM, preferably a fully trained one, will
serve far better in the ASM-NSP position, IMHO.
One of the best reasons for doing it this way is that the ASM does not
really serve as an advisor to the Patrol, per se. He serves as an
Advisor to the Troop Guide. The Troop Guide is really the Advisor to the
New Scout Patrol, and should be the one working closely with the new
Scouts.
Break those new Scouts in the right way - with a youth leader and
minimal adult interference.
