Our council dinner is coming up next Saturday and it's costimg me $25;
would be twice that, but my wife had earlier asked if her presence was really
required. While I only have to pay for one dinner this year, it's not an
unreasonably high cost considering it includes the reception beforehand and
dinner in one of the better hotels here in the Capital District. Besides
knowing a couple of this year's Silver Beaver recipients, I like the chance
to socialize with Scouters I know in the other districts, the ones I don't
see so often.
Our district dinner was only $10 -- a ziti dinner at the local Elks lodge.
We have paid as high as $15 for a good hotel buffet, but attendance drops
off as others have also mentioned.
