A Scout List member asked me to post some info on what I pack to achieve this
weight. I won't bore anyone with exact weights and too many brand names.
When I achieve this weight I am usually hiking in Philmont or Philmont-like
conditions in late July; i.e. similar altitude and temp conditions. I am hot
blooded and in general sleep with little covers (my wife will attest to
this). If I hike in fall or winter I carry more. Hey, it works for me,
your needs will differ I'm sure. The Philmont list has lots of archives on
stuff like this as does Seldon's website. If you are looking for good info
on organizing for Philmont or high adventure in general get Coop's guide,
it's worth the price.

I typically wear:
1 pair liner socks
1 pair Wool Rag socks
1 pair Asolo boots
1 pair baggy nylon runing pants with insert
1 sleeveless nylon tank top or no shirt at all
1 Columbia nylon fishing hat (I like the big brim, floppy sides and a clip
for wind)
1 set LEKI walking sticks

I carry on my back:
1 Lafuma chair
1 smallish Mountainsmith BP with any useless things cut off
an extra pair of liners, socks, shorts and a tank top. I don't have
sleeping clothes because I don't wear anything when I'm in the bag but
keep tomorrows shorts in there for pit stops at night, etc
1 pair Teva type sandles or Aslo running shoes for camp or day hiking (if I
know there are cacti on my route-they are extremly light too)
1 pair shin height gaitors (keeps the socks dry in rain)
1 Marmot Thunderlight rainjacket
1 Mtn. Hardwear Windblock polarfleece jacket
1 Marmot down bag that weighs about 1lb, 8 oz
1 torso length closed cell pad
1 AAA microlite (yellow plastic-very light and colorful so I can find it)
1 extra set battteries and a bulb
1 tiny knife (about 1" long)
1 SVEA 123 stove and a an MSR kettle
1 small bottle (1/2 litre?) of fuel if I need it
The usual type plastic bowl and a cup, a lexan spoon and chopsticks
1 MSR mesh bear bag and parachutte cord
a compass and a good watch
small bag of toiletries
a tough plastic trowel
Usually 3 day supply of dehydrated vegetarian food (even at Philmont you
rarely carry more than a 3 day supply give or take a meal)
2 one litre water bottles and 1 empty MSR 2 litre water bag for camp or long
dry hauls

This is about the minimum, I sometimes pack a camera and that adds to the
weight.
I also carry a small very lite set of windchimes, YES WINDCHIMES! I like
the sound when I'm in my tent and they let make a camp so homey.

I think most people carry more than they need but that's ok with me if its ok
with them.
