If I could design the perfect meeting place? Boy did you ask for it (pardon
me if I get a little unrealistic).
The main meeting room would be large enough to accomodate about 200 people.
It would have a small stage at one end for use during demonstrations and
courts of awards; a twenty foot high ceiling to accomodate indoor games that
should be played outdoors; storage for administrative and other meeting
materials, tables, and chairs; and accoustics suitable for a large group of
loud boys.
While I would prefer individual patrol rooms, cubicles or alcoves would be
just as good. I would also like a kitchen big enough to use for spaghetti
dinners, but small enough that it doesn't come with huge electric and gas
bills. For myself, and office that's big enough for the adults to "hang out"
in while the Scouts have their meeting, and a conference room to lock the
committee in once a month.
In addition, it would be nice to have a lighted, heated storage room for our
equipment with either a garage door, or oversized door to allow easy access
to equipment. This storage room should be large enough to work on equipment
(particularly tents) without much trouble. We should be able to open our
tents or hang them from the ceiling.
The floor of the meeting room should be motorized so, at the press of a
button, it can be moved to reveal the heated olympic-sized swimming pool
underneath (complete with changing and shower rooms). Outside the meeting
hall I would need a large parking lot and a huge "sports" field. Of
particular importance would be the flag pole.
Now, on the second floor...
