>>What is the difference between the Cub Scout Leader Book and the Cub Scout
Leader How-To Book?<<
Kristi:
I'd recommend purchasing both books. The Leader Handbook is filled with all
the official den leader "stuff" you'll need to learn to run an effective den.
It gives you a lot of information about the CS program, uniforming,
advancement, etc.. The Leader How To Book gives a lot of good ideas for
activities, crafts, games, etc. that will be helpful in your den / pack
program & helping with advancement.
More important than the books though, is to get the "Faststart" & CS Leader
Training as soon as possible. You'll also want to attend as many roundtables
& Pow Wows as possible. Get all the training you can. Your Cubmaster should
be able to point you in the direction of available training.
If you don't already use it, you should also start frequenting the Scouting
Forum on AOL. It has an excellent message board, library, and chat room that
is specific to scouting. It's one of the best resources around! You can get
to the Scouting Forum on AOL buy entering keyword "scouting". It is a members
only AOL service.
I'm a Webelos 1 den leader now, but when I started out as a Wolf leader, I
found the hardest part was finding the resources I needed. If you follow the
above advice...you should get up to speed very quickly. Good luck & have fun!
