And the issue for some troops, like mine, is purely hypothetical. We are
sponsored by a church and are under strict orders to make certain that
everything is perfectly legal in what we do. It is up to our committee to
ask these questions (which I was I started this thread about a week ago in
the first place). Guaranteed, even though there is little chance that the
IRS *will* do something, if there is the slightest question about the
legality of the issue, my chartered partner will have us drop it anyway.
They want there to be no questions, and want us to set that example for
everyone else, as scouts. Which includes the expectation that I will tell
them about everything I've read here.
And I'm not certain, given our oath and law, that what they ask of my troop
is such a terrible thing.
