$10 cub discussion

Kenneth Spiegel (MVAEMT@AOL.COM)

After following this for a period of time, may I suggest that the pack add
the charge for all cubs. Then permit a $10 reduction for a parent who attends
the camp out or work in a pack position. You might even have to invent jobs
if too many parents want to get involved.

If a parent has more than one cub in the pack an automatic discount is issued
for the other siblings.

When I was an assistant Cubmaster, we has 120 cubs. Dues were only a problem
for 4 cub families. Three were able to make it up with our September M&M fund
raiser and one was just given the credit so the son could stay in scouting.

We wrote a rule that said credit from fundraising for scout camp would be
given only if the dues were paid up prior to the start of the fund raising
date. Credit would be given to the payment of back dues or other money owed
first prior to the start of credit for the youth. The cost of the fund raiser
(actual cost of the product) was to be paid by the parent at pick up time.
(Example M&Ms cost pack $14 per case and we made an Additional $14 Parent
left a deposit of $14 and the balance due was to be paid to the pack by a
certain date. A legal contract was drawn and signed by the parent when they
picked up the candy) We found that most parents paid there dues in full and
for the cases of candy they took that same night.

The reason for the contract was that we had to take a disgruntled parent to
court to get the pack some $300 owed. The judge was furious with the family
and beside having them pay the $300 gave the father a fine (Abusive repeated
language in court) and community service time. When the father did not pay
and failed to show for the community service, he was arrested and spent 3
months in jail. The pack received their money almost 2 years later. I should
point out that almost 1/2 the pack showed up in court (Youth and adults.)
