I've been following this thread for several days, and here's my $0.02
worth...
I've always been able to deduct my Scouting expenses on my income tax.
While not a big deduction, the fact that it can slightly reduce your
end-of-year tax burden should take some of the "sting" out of paying the
course fee. Additionally, I just got a flyer in the mail today for a
2-day training course, with coffee breaks and box lunch, for *only*
$895.00 !!! So $140 or so for an 8-day course with meals, cracker
barrels, "deluxe" accommodations, etc. seems pretty reasonable to me...
