Re: A Scoutmaster's Paycheck

Hi y'all,

This reminded me of the time when I was a new "Den Mother" almost 20 years ago.
It was May 1980, and my den was making gifts for Mothers Day. My den met on
Friday afternoons at 4PM, after school. On the Friday before Mothers Day, I was
getting my kitchen and dining rooms ready for 10 Bear Scouts. The time was
about 3:15 when the door bell rang. I opened the door and there stood Ryan, one
of my Bears. He immediately went into a speech that he obviously practiced. He
said, "I know I'm too early for our den meeting, Miss Lydia, but I brought you a
present. I know Sunday is Mothers Day, but there ought to be a Den Mothers Day
too. I made this for you at school." He handed me a plastic champagne glass
with home made soap balls in it. He gave me a hug, and turned to leave, saying,
"I'll see ya at 4:00 Miss Lydia." Needless to say I cried. It's incidents like
this that makes it all worth while.
