Re: [Fwd: Webelos Program Helps]

We ran into the same problem with the Webelos and the Program Helps. We
couldn't find anyone who knew anything about them no longer being with
the Cub Scout Program Helps, so the Webelos Den Leader and I decided to
write our own using PAST Program Helps. We are finding that we are able
to "personalize" for our area as well by listing local places to go on
field trips, and people to call upon for guest speakers. We have even
come up with a few who have already stated that they will be willing to
participate with the den activities the entire month that they are
working on that Activity Pin. We don't have the book put together yet,
but so far it is exciting for us to be able to do. We are finding that
it is also something that we feel will not be outdated for the Webelos
Program within our pack and will be able to be used year after year
after year since we are putting it together as a 'road map' for the
program - start to finish. We have divided it into sections based upon
when the den starts. ie - 1st year starting in June (summer between 3rd
and 4th grade); 1st year starting in September of 4th grade; 1st year
starting in 5th grade. Within each of those groupings, we have arranged
the Activity Pin Achievement in such a manner that a boy starting in any
of the groups will have the opportunity to achieve his Webelos Badge and
his Arrow of Light with no difficulty and those starting in either 4th
grade slot will be able to achieve all Compass Points. The Den Leader
and I are also writing in field trips and activities that will get their
Sports and Academics Awards worked in over a period of time for those
who move up from Bear to Webelos so that they will have the opportunity
to acchieve each of those awards as well (except Snow Sports as it does
not snow in Southeast TX- We are going to plan a trip to Houston to take
the boys ice skating, most likely at Galeria Mall unless someone on the
list can tell me where the other rinks in Houston are - we would like to
list them all in our Program Helps) We are finding this to be quite a
challenge, but we can not begin to describe how much we are learning
about the Webelos Program and the resources our area has to offer us
that we would not have been aware of had this book been readily at our
disposal. Like our Den Leader says, she most likely would have just
"blindly" followed the book and not opened up her own mind to thinking
and planning and learning about the program. I guess I have multiple
reasons for saying so much about what Yvette and I are doing.
1. We understand what other packs are going through.
2. What we are doing about it.
3. We would like to ask for any game, song, activity or assistance
anyone may have that would help us in
our project. Please e-mail me with the subject "Webelos Helps
Input"
4. Yes, when we finish the project we would be willing to share it
with others. We are putting the project
together on Word 7.0., just send me an e-mail with the subject
"Webelos Helps Request". I will put your
address on the mailing list to send it to you. We hope to have it
completed by the end of July.
