Elmo hit a hot button for me

Kevin Pate (kevinpate@YAHOO.COM)

one question regarding the impact of ELMO on a group
of youth, or should I say, a group of youth on Elmo:

> other chapters steal him ...
> he has been hung,
> had suicide notes pined to him ..
> been found up the flag pole
> etc.

Uh, these would be the good and positive things about
having a mascot that reflect the behaviors I should
most want to encourage in other youth? Let's see,
theft, mimicking lynching & violence, the mocking of
the deep despair that accompanies suicide.... sorry, I
think I'll take a pass on this particular view o'
'harmless' fun.

Sorry, but this just hit a big personal hot button for
me and I can not just shrug it off. I'm not asking
anyone to agree with me nor to continue the thread
even, I'm simply offering one person's view of
opposition to the above sounding like good clean fun.

If anyone feels a need to fire off a flame to me,
please do not hit reply. Please send it instead to
scouter@email.com, where the flame will be deleted
unread (that way you can say anything you really want
to without any concern of seeing it again).

Moi
