First Aid Kit

Ginny: I just go by what is suggested in the Boy Scout Handbook or the
First Aid Merit Badge for what to include in a first aid kit. And if you
mean by "tick extracter" a pair of pointy tweezers, it will do double duty
for splinters if you get the narrow points. Slant points are OK and
cheaper, but for a kit get narrow points.

Brag time - I accompanied the 5th graders at our school on a hike
yesterday. I always grab my "Scratch kit" - a fanny pack with bandaids,
gloves, ointment, - just in case. One kid suffered a big gash on his shin
- deep wide and long. I handed over my meager kit to the teacher. Just
then, one of our Boy Scouts pipes up - "I have my first aid kit with me"
and hands me his baggie with the roller wrap, gauze squares, bandaids etc,
we had put together for Webelos REadyman. We lucked out and a EMT was at
the spot with a full kit, so we didn't have to tap into this Scout's kit.
But it had everything we needed if it was all we had. All in a baggie.

He will be recognized at the next meeting. Be Prepared.

YIS,

Jan Mussler, Webelos Den Leader, Pack 170
