Allen,
While I've never done it, it HAS been done before. That's how I
started out! After a year of doing mostly nothing in my troop,
interspersed with occasional moments of total responsibility, I found
out about another troop that was desperate for new leaders. After one
visit, I was hooked (it was clear the other adults had no clue how to
run a Scout troop - which is a really long story I'll tell you if you
really want to know). Of course, I would have been hooked regardless
of HOW the troop was run, as long as my responsibility in the troop
was something more than sitting in the back of the room trying to be
comfortable listening to old men gab. ;-}
Actually, this sounds like it might make a very interesting
conversation at the next roundtable. There are probably more than a
few Scouters in the district wondering what to do with their "new"
adult leaders.
