Adult Leader Meeting....Meeting of the Minds

This week we had an adult leaders meeting. There were two subjects that
could not be resolved. My position is that we support the Scoutmaster and
let him make the decision. The issues are:
1. He would like to "try" out having the patrols advance basically
in patrol name only to show their growth in scouting and to go along with an
Indian theme . It starts with an inanimate object such as lightening and
arrow...grows into the Bison...on to man (the Indian) and then to the Eagle
(which represents spiritual). It has been suggested by one leader to come up
with a Troop campfire story to go along with this theme and put meaning into
it and see if it will evolve into a Troop Tradition.
There are a few leaders that are against this. They feel that if
they always keep the same name it will have more meaning. I am in support of
the SM. I'm not sure if it will work.....but I feel we should support him
and see what happens. If we have a good scouting program, this is trivial to
argue over. Its the scouting program that keeps scouts in...not the name.
2. There are several adults that don't want Scouts to wear Class A
at all the meetings. I suggested that they wear Class B in the summer time
and the meeting right after a campout. The SM is in agreement. He wants
Class A at all meetings unless designated as Class B. He wants to create a
good habit amongst the boys.
Question: What do you think? What words of wisdom would you provide to
adult leaders on supporting the Scoutmaster?
