Michigan International Camporee 2000

The International Division of the BSA has just sent letters to
International Commissioners inviting Scout groups in Australia, Austria,
Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, New
Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Slovakia, Uganda, United Kingdom (England),
Venezuela, and Zimbabwe to participate in home stays with Michigan Scout
families from July 23 to 30, 2000, and then to join Scouts and leaders from
the U.S. and Canada in our 8 day Michigan International Camporee 2000. We
are delighted that groups from so many countries have made an early
commitment to participate in our camp. While it is likely that a few of
these groups will eventually decide that they are unable to participate, we
expect to add groups from other countries in the next year and to make this
a truly internatonal experience.

Details on Michigan International Camporee 2000 are on our home page at
http://www.msu.edu/~rasche/scout/micamp.htm

The following opportunities are available:

MICHIGAN UNITS - All spaces for Michigan hosting teams that will form the
nucleus of each campsite at Michigan International Camporee 2000 were
filled by December 1, 1998. The waiting list is now so long that it
doesn't make sense to add any other troop or crew to the list.

OUT-OF-STATE AND CANADIAN UNITS - We plan to make space in each of our 15
campsites for one patrol of 8 Scouts/Venturers from an out-of-state or
Canadian troop/crew. We have 11 of those patrols registered. We have now
placed a hold on these spaces to make sure we haven't overfilled the
hosting team spaces. We expect that we will be able to add up to 4 more
out-of-state/Canadian patrols this fall. In order to have as diverse a
group of participants as possible, we have limited each state or province
to one patrol. To see if the space for your state or province is already
taken, go to our list of participating groups at
http://www.msu.edu/~rasche/scout/micamp20/flag2000.htm and scroll down to
the Canada or United States section. If your state/province is not already
represented and your group would be interested in participating, please
contact me.

INTERNATIONAL UNITS - 16 of the 40 Scouts in each of our 15 campsites will
be from one or more contingents from outside the U.S. and Canada. We still
have space for international groups. We will invite one patrol of up to 8
Scouts and 2 leaders from any country outside the U.S. and Canada to
participate in the home stays and the camp itself, including food, tents,
and group equipment, at no fee. There is the possibility of a group adding
up to 8 more Scouts and 2 more adults at a fee of $80 each In order to
have the maximum number of countries represented, we are limiting each
country to one group. If your country is in the above list of countries to
which invitations have been sent and appears at
http://www.msu.edu/~rasche/scout/micamp20/flag2000.htm , the space for your
country is already taken. If the space for your country is not already
taken and your group would like to participate in Michigan International
Camporee 2000, please contact me for more details. If the space for your
country is already taken, you are welcome to contact me to learn how solid
the group is that plans to represent your country and to learn about other
international opportunities in the USA in 2000.

STAFF - We will keep our costs low by using an all-volunteer staff. All
staff members except those from outside the U.S. and Canada and those who
are members of our regular summer camp staff will pay a staff fee of $80 to
cover the cost of food and jamboree identity items. Anyone who is from
outside the U.S. and Canada or is a members of our regular summer camp
staff is invited to serve on our staff at no fee but will not be paid. We
will select staff members according to their qualifications for positions
where we have needs and the recommendations we receive from their home
councils. A staff application form can be found as a link on our home
page. Applicants for staff positions must have their completed
applications to our Chief Okemos Council offfice by August 8, 1999, to be
among the first group that is assigned staff positions.

Yours in International Scouting,

Bruce McCrea, Chairman
Michigan International Camporee 2000
