Glancing at the 1999 Troop Equipment Catalog, which arrived the other
day, revealed:
Page 3 lists The Litehouse tent. 32.4 CUBIC feet with fly. Boy, do
they ever need a proofreader. ;-) The erroneous data is written
thrice.
It would be a good trail tent for two at 4 lbs, 14 oz., as long as the
trek was short. But, I guess it couldn't be used at Philmont or other
prolonged HA.
On that same page is the following sidebar:
"Long-Term Camping Policy
"Long-term camping is defined as five or more consecutive nights of
camping. The Camp Health and Safety standards of the Boy Scouts of
America require that "each camper is provided with a minimum of 30 sq.
ft. of sheltered space for sleeping and storing personal gear." Please
note some states may require more square footage per camper."
I guess the symantics team will have to determine whether the term
"camper" is enclusive of "trekker", or not. ;-)
The lightest tent for two (five or more consecutive days) in the catalog
may be the "Venture Extreme" (page 4), at 63.75 (?) sq. ft. - 9 lbs, 13
oz. The next "lightest" is the "Standard" BSA Wall Tent (page 5), at 62
sq. ft. - 23.5 lbs, but since the burro may not be classified as
"personal gear" it can be tied outside, rather than "stored" inside.
