"New Horizons" (Doesn't this guy EVER stay in one place?)

(no name) ((no email))
Sun, 14 Mar 1999 12:33:20 -0600

"Doesn't this guy EVER stay in one place long enough to get settled
in??"

Hi Scouters!

In advance, I'm sorry for the massive crossposting of this note to
you...some of you will receive extra copies of this posting because
we share several mailing lists!!

But it was either sending one to everyone or sending copies to each
and every list separately...either way, you'll receive more than
one copy!

I received (finally!!) orders sending me to support the relief
activities in Central America associated with that hurricane named
for my younger brother, Mitch. This has been a very short
suspensed action: messages went out to the field seeking
nominations, my name was mentioned twice, the director of the
Public Affairs office serving the Reserve command contacted me by
email and said "you're the guy" and then the rest of the time was
consumed with "who's going to pay" and "who's going to issue the
actual order". In the meantime, what I envisioned leaving last
week to cover the President's trip down to Central America ended up
moved back a week and a half....and I'm *now* flying *this (Sunday)
evening* for the east coast!

At least I'm taking the snow with me! *grinning*

I don't know much about the effort, except that America's Army has
been doing this kind of humanitarian effort for the last ten years
in areas of Central America....but this is the first time that a
more concentrated and coordinated effort will be mounted to ease
suffering, to rebuild and provide confidence in the rebuilding of
the infrastructure, of four Central American countries almost blown
off the faces of maps by a destructive and highly dangerous storm
called Mitch.

I will be at a military airfield working within a forward command's
Joint Information Bureau, or JIB. This organization will support
the telling of America's Army's story and more specifically the
stories of our male and female Citizen-soldiers being sent there
for two or three weeks at a time for their annual training. During
their annual training, they will provide medical, engineer,
transportation, supply and services, and military police support to
the people living there and to entire communities. They will give
medicinces, rebuild or build roads and bridges, move supplies and
materials between cities, and unfortunately find bodies of people
whom have left this world in the process. It is all work which you
as our funding source can be proud of and something in which you
will definately see your "tax dollars at work."

I will be gone from this evening through the 15th of August, give
or take a couple of weeks. When I return, Jessi and I will take a
short vacation and then we'll be back to "more normal stuff."

At the present time, I am RETAINING ALL OF MY EMAIL ACCOUNTS, but I
don't know if I can reach them from down there. I'll find out a
lot of those answers in the day tomorrow as I do my inprocessing in
New Jersey (Fort Dix). Of course, you know that I'll be taking my
Scouting uniforms and some materials with me, because I always do
and because there may be an opportunity to do some Scouting while
I'm there. I'm not for sure but I'll find out about that too.

If for some reason you need to reach me RIGHT AWAY, I've reset my
Hotmail account as well as my America Online (tm) account. Here
are the addresses, along with my military email account back here
in Minnesota...I may be able to "remote access" this account but
I'm not counting on it:

Primary: blkeagles@hotmail.com
kyblkeagle@aol.com

Secondary: coffeeweb@aol.com
waltonmi@usarc-emh2.army.mil

With regard to all of the current projects and plans, they are
basically on hold. Jessi and I are still working on the Binder
things...we will let those whom ordered know what we've decided on
and either promptly cut checks or go ahead with processing the
binders and gettng those out to everyone within the next week.

I'm taking the other items from my whiteboard with me, so that
during the lulltimes I can work on them and get them accomphished
for us all!

Again, priorities have been shifted and changed as both Jessi and
myself adjust to being away from each other again....

We ask for your prayers and good words as we get ready for yet
another deployment...and for your understanding and patience when I
can't respond back to you within what should be a reasonable
timeperiod!
