A suggestion on Uniforming

All-

Well, I've been reading over the past week or so all the problems people
have about the current BSA uniforms. Poor fit, bad
design/materials/unsuitable for the outdoors/too expensive/etc. Most seem
to want to bitch to National or Supply, or forgo National's pants for BDUs
and the like.

Why not try something a little more positive? Instead of just complaining,
why not come up with alternatives for National to consider.

I would suggest that people check out the clothing available from various
suppliers of outdoor wear (REI, Sportif, Royal Robbins, etc. etc.). Pick
out clothing from them that best matches the uniform colors of the BSA (tan
shirt & OD pants for Boy Scouts, navy blue for Cubs, forest green & gray for
Venturings). Dress up the scouts in these outfits with appropriate patches
and show them side by side of the Official uniforms. Show the price
difference and the durability of the other suppliers stuff. Maybe that
would make National take notice and make some changes.

[aside- frankly I would prefer we take out clothing cue from outdoor
clothing then military clothing, same as B-P. People forget that the
uniform B-P came up with for scouts was NOT what the militaries were wearing
at the time!]
