Alternative Eagle project?

He wanted to do a blood drive for his project but the district counselor said
NO

( he also does the Eagle board of reviews ). The scout came up with another

project - involved creating a woodworking shop. The counselor will approve it

with a few more additions to his plan.

The problem is the scout does not want to do this project! He wants to do

something involving the ambulance corp(s) and the local community.

How about a program to ID medical needs of people in the homes? Especially
elders... there are kits that can be made up to "live" in the freezer which
have info on medical conditions, medications, etc. Some rescue squads promote
this and look for them when they enter a house for a call.
Also: How about an organ donor ID drive? There used to be a BSA program for
this, with a patch you can get. But donor education and planning and getting
cards out into the community is a very valuable service (and EMT's see a lot
of donors and potential recipients). Call the local organ bank (your nearest
hospital should be able to steer you in the right direction).
How about a child bike helmet safety program? Get helmets donated/sell at
cost, do a bike rodeo or attend some school night function/little league
celebration/foruth of july gathering/.etc for a program with emphasis on head
injury prevention. EMT's see a lot of this, too.

Infant/child car seats can be done in a similar way. Some police depts around
here will pull you over and ticket you for not having a baby/child in an
approved car seat: the cost of the ticket is the cost of the car seat the
officer had in the cruiser trunk, in which your child now safely rides. Put
this together with your local PD and car dealerships or other car seat
distributor, distribute car seat safety info to preschools, hospitals,
pediatrician offices....

Hope one of these catches his imagination!
