11 year old Boy Scout

Jan Mussler (mussler@SPOT.COLORADO.EDU)

Let the parents and boy decide if he is ready for Boy Scouts. He's been
told he's able to be a Boy Scout but may prefer to stay with his friends.
I'm sure you'd like to get him ready for camp, but if it's only one boy,
some special effort on your part may be needed if he decided to stick it
out a couple months with the group he's familiar with. You might risk
losing him to Scouts altogether otherwise. My two cents. I don't think
age 11 is magic. He can join anytime thereafter. I have a young man in a
similar situation. He wants to go to Boy Scouts and then he also wants to
stay with his den. Until he decides otherwise, he's a WEbelos.
