One thing that your camp committee can suggest to the camp program director
is that he/she build a board similar to one of those used at the waterfront
and hang it up in the camp office. There buddy tags (back side) can be hung
on nails to show the schedule of classes and events at camp in any given
week. That way a leader can wander in and visually see what is happening at
any point and is not dependent on trying to find the a single key person to
get answers. On each buddy tag you can write down the class/event and have
the board organized by days (horizontal) and times (vertical). If you want
to go a step further have a bit of space to one side of the nails where the
camp map is posted. Use colored highlighters to highlight various program
area locations and use the same colors on the buddy tags so that when you
view the board you see colors for each date and time that match the map. I
did this as a camp program director and had about a dozen nails for each
time block and used a couple hundred of these tags. It worked well to
create a simple visual map of what was going on at camp that was useful to
the leaders in camp. Best of all, it still worked when the electricity when
out (which happened frequently enough).
