The issue is fairly plain to me, but I suspect I'll never be able to make
it as plain to anyone else. However, I'm willing to try.
You're dealing with 8 to 10 year olds. The physical/or/sexual abuse that
can be inflicted by a 9-yr-old is limited by his size. The damage that
can be inflicted by a 9-yr-old using a gun is unlimited by his size.
Or, walking around the corner, the avenues of escape available to a
9-yr-old facing sexual or physical abuse are somewhat larger than those
available to a 9-yr-old facing a gun.
Nothing in the foregoing is meant to be seen as approval of abuse, nor to
downplay the severity of it.
