I realize that my unit's situation may be different, as my members are 14-21
(mainly 16-18). I have learned that this is really too old for most
pedophiles to be interested in.
My Venturing Crew carries a very public profile, as we are chartered by an
active, heavily publicized community organization.
Just about everything that we do reaches the media in one form or another.
Because of this, we do post photos of our youth members on our web site. We
may include their hometown, but never anything more specific.
We also post our meeting date, time, and location. One of the primary
purposes of our web site is to recruit new members, so we feel that this is
important. After meetings, we don't leave the premises until all members
have been picked up by their rides.
The Internet is just one of our methods of advertising. We also use posters,
brochures, and cable tv spots. Al of these could potentially draw bad
people, but the benefits far outweigh the risks.
