High Adventure Camping Trip

Observant Jewish Boy Scouts, who adhere to the Jewish dietary laws and
strictly observe the Sabbath, often find it difficult to participate in most
Scout activities, in view of their special needs. The following trip meets
their particular needs. However, it is open to all Scouts, whether or not
Jewish, who wish to come along, recognizing that special accommodations will
be made to enable these observant Jewish Scouts to fulfill their religious
obligations.
GO WEST, YOUNG MAN !
WHO: Boy Scouts, 13 years old and above are invited to attend ! Scouts
from any Council may attend. Participants from MD, NJ, NY, MA already
expected!
WHAT: High Adventure Travel Through National Parks in South Dakota,
Wyoming, Utah and Colorado! Experience the United States National Parks
while camping and hiking with other Jewish Scouts
WHEN: June 20th, 1999 through July 9th, 1999. Scouts interested in
attending Camp Kunatah at Ten Mile River Scout Reservation (July 11-July 25)
and Floodwood High Adventure Camp (July 25-August 9) after the trip may also
arrange transportation. At both camps, kosher food will be provided, and the
program will be Sabbath-observant.
WHERE: The Badlands and Wind Cave National Parks and Mount Rushmore
National Monument in South Dakota, The Grand Tetons National Park in
Wyoming, Arches National Park in Utah and Mesa Verde National Park in
Colorado to name a few!
HOW: Travel will be by train, vans and planes. The program will be in
complete observance of all Jewish dietary laws (kashrut), Shabbat observance
and daily services (Shacharit, Minchah, and Maariv also to include prayers
before and after meals.
COST: Final costs have not been determined (dependent on the number of
participants) but cost including all travel, food, park admission and
planned activities are expected to be under $1,000.00! (more information
will be available soon)
