I don't know if many of you have heard of this or not, but unfortunately
a first year scout was killed while hiking in the Howe Sound mountains
north of Vancouver. It was a tragic accident. =20

A troop was descending Mt Harvey on a snowy trail. The youth slipped =
and
fell to his death in the ravine to the side of the trail. Full story =
and
details that seem fairly accurate can be found at:

http://www.vancouversun.com/newsite/news/215923.html

It is truly unfortunate that this should happen at ANY time, but it is
particularly hard to imagine it happening around Christmas.=20

Please keep the family of Philip McLeod in your prayers as you celebrate
this time with your family, and remember, that scouting is only as =
strong
and safe as the people that provide the program. Take care, and have a
safe scouting season,

Brian P. Hampson
