I just read Alice from Napa's comments about women in Scouting. I agree
with her totally. I have had the privledge of going to summer camp with
a friend who is a woman SM. Her Troop is the nicest group of boys and
very polite to all adults. When I had problems rolling up my mattress
one offered to help me all on his own. At roundtable the ADC was reading
advancement statistics her Troop of only 8 boys and they were
impressive. A large percentage of boys make Eagle and she makes them
work.
I just went on my first campout with my son's Troop this weekend and it
was a mess. I'm Cubmaster of the local pack and we had Webelos IIs going
to get AOL requirements done. The boys were mouthy and very
disrespectful. Some of these kids were in my Webelos Den 2-3 years ago,
they knew me but they were not courteous, kind or helpful just to name a
few. Women hadn't been on a campout in many many years and now I know
why.
Anyway I hope over time to change things...maybe someday!!
