Young Eagle from Jon Dixon

Hi all on the list....

As you all know I quite often just sit back and watch..... I occasionally
have a say but not often......
I would like to congratulate Jon firstly on attaining his Eagle Scout....
This I gather is an achievement not to be taken lightls.... Secondly I would
like to congratulate him on all the wonderful points he makes about some
parents pushing to get their children through badgework....
Has society got so bad that adults can not live their own lives and
achievements without trying to take their childrens off them.....
How can these scouts really be awarded their badges if they have not done
the work..... Have Scouting leaders lost the nerve to tell parents that
little Johnny hasn't done sufficient work to pass but has to do more.....
When one of our cubs has not completed a badge they don't get the badge
signed off.... The parent has no say in that at all.... Our scout leaders do
the same....
If a scout for instance cannot make some requirements for a camping or
bushcraft badge and wants to take his patrol out on a hike and overnighter -
he could be putting other kids at risk....
Lets wake up and smell the coffee.....
Our duty of care requires us to care for these children..... Parents do not
have the same committment as we do.... We sign off the badges, we award the
badges and we take all the responsibility when the proverbial hits the
fan.....
Are the parents going to take responsibility for anything if their scout
injures others??????
Well done Jon.... I am just going to put on my flame proofs....
