Re: simple cuts first aid?

As I recall from my University Wilderness First Aid class (taught on the
principle that professional aid is 1hr to 10 days away), the use of
Neosporin (tm), Bacitracin (tm), trisporin (no tm) is highly recommended
as healing _is_speeded_ by about three days! BUT, the wound must be
properly cleaned, too, since these ointments (as pointed out below) also
clog up the wound to a certain degree. Thus foreign livestock and debri
can be trapped inside the wound leading to severe infection, blood
poisoning, etc.
It doesn't matter whether you're out in the wilderness, or out in the
garage, proper cleaning and dressing with an appropriate bandage (no tm)
and ointment speeds healing. The _need_ for faster healing may depend
upon the victim's other circumstances, i.e., degree of activity, location
and severity of wound, environment, etc.
