Our pack did this every year in September. We used it for lots of things.
1. The 2nd year Webelos were in charge of building the fire (a long thin fire,
say about 15 feet long and 2 or 3 logs wide- suitable for a lot of people to
cook hot dogs).
2. We had a wienie roast (make sure they are kosher) for dinner.
3. After dinner Akela (dressed as an Indian Chief- we borrowed an OA Vigil
headdress) came to the campfire, to the accompaniment of recorded Indian drum
and flute music.
4. Akela then inducted new Cub Scouts and new Den leaders around the campfire.
5. After the fire died down the Cub Scouts and parents left, and the Webelos
sat around the dying fire to tell stories.
6. The Webelos and their Moms-Dads spent the night in cabins at the site.
Breakfast the next morning and they left.
All in all a splendid time in the open.
