Re: Rejected Scout

I know of two such instances.

When I turned 11 (which at the time, was the minimum age to become a Boy
Scout) I went with one of my school mates to his Troop meeting intending
to join his Troop. All was going well until the Scoutmaster interviewed
me toward the end of the meeting, and he asked me which Patrol I thought
I would like to be in. When I replied that I had no preference as long
as Patrol meeting were not on Wednesdays, as that was the afternoon that
I went to Hebrew School to study for my Bar Mitzvah, he suddenly
remembered that the Troop was full and I would be more comfortable in
another Troop anyway. I waited three more years, and joined a Sea Scout
Ship in the neighboring city.

Last Spring, my Troop was forced to hold a disciplinary board for one of
the youths who appeared to be going out of his way to think of, and then
do, whatever was the worst thing he could in every situation. His
parents took this as a personal affront and withdrew him from the
Troop. They took him to three other Troops before one would accept him
(the first two Troops remembered his behavior on the recent Camporee
that helped precipitate the disciplinary board).
