The Governor Clinton Council no longer exists, having merged with the
Saratoga County Council and the Sir Wiliam Johnson COuncil to form the
Twin Rivers Council # 364. >>

I must've missed the original post, but the Twin Rivers Council IS in
Upstate
New York; it says so on our CSP. (Depending on where you draw the line,
everything north of the Bronx seems to be "upstate.") The Governor Clinton
Council was itself a merger of the Fort Orange Council (where I was in Troop
25) and, I think, the Uncle Sam Council. The camp that the Fort Orange
Council
owned was at Stratton Mountain, VT, and it was a wonderful place for a city
kid
(me) to spend two weeks in the summer.
I've heard various reasons why the VT property was sold, the most common
being that the state had found a way to tax it and the council couldn't afford
to
pay. Whatever the reason, we lost a beautiful camp.
All of this transpired while I was out of Scouting and out of the area (my
family
moved to Syracuse in '62 and I didn't get back into Scouting until almost 20
years
later which was about 6 years after I'd moved back to Albany.
But one thing hasn't changed and it would make my Dutch ancestors proud.
The Fort Orange Council may be gone, but the name lives on as the Fort Orange
District of the Twin Rivers Council.
