Re: Leaving the ranks of the unbathed / Sexist Female Trainers???

Both Ron Fox and Kevin Pate disagreed with what I stated to Paula and the list
concerning wearing one Cub shirt over another:

I wrote:

>>This again, Paula, is a PACK decision, and not again decided based
>>on which part of the WEBELOS Cub Scout program they are a part of.

Both Ron and Kevin responded in the same way:

>Nope: this is not a Pack decision, or a leader decision either. Each Scout
>in the Webelos Den can decide, individually, to change from the blue uniform
>to the khaki one. This can, and often does, result in half the Den wearing
>the blue uniform that they have not yet outgrown, and the other half wearing
>the khaki ones that they bought when they DID outgrow their old blue ones.

Both Ron and Kevin also went forward in stating that there's nowhere that says
that a PACK nor Pack leadership can "dictate" which uniform would be worn. It
is a family's decision.

Which is exactly TRUE, guys. However, for the sake of uniformity, the PACK
should provide some sort of guidelines as to which uniform shirt should be worn.
More realistically, the Cub Scout shirt should be worn during the first two
years and the "generic shirt" should be worn during the latter two years, if
a Pack is going to use both shirts.

PERSONALLY, I don't see why we're rushing WEBELOS Cub Scouts to wear the
"Boy Scout" uniform so early. It's another one of those things that takes
the sails out of being a Boy Scout ("Hey!! You get to wear a DIFFERENT
uniform!!" "Oh, big deal! I've been wearing it for TWO YEARS, and I don't
even get to keep half of the stuff on my shirt when I go over to become a
Boy Scout!!")

As a PARENT and Scouter, I can see going out and getting the shirt a little
earlier (when it's cheaper to purchase...smaller sizes are cheaper, but
again, those kids sure grow between 11 and 14!!)

(and some of us are STILL growing! *looking down at my tummy*)

While the FINAL decision is up to Mom and Dad (and perhaps Meema!), I would
still say that the PACK should give some consideration and guidance as to
which uniform is "their recommendation" for wear by Cub Scouts, WEBELOS Cub
Scouts, and Cub Scouters, male and female. Leaving it to each family to
choose sure makes for mixed and matched uniform, which isn't "real
uniforming", don't you two agree??

Settummanque!
