Re: when to give advancements

All of the advancements for the Bear and Wolf ranks can be earned rather
quickly if
the den leader or the parents allow it. But they are made to take
atleast 9 months to a year to earn the rank. In my opinion, possibly
part of the Pack's thinking is to give the boys a program that lasts the
whole year. What will the boy do if he earns his rank 2 months into the
program? He cant start on the next rank until he is the proper grade.
(or age in the LDS units)
This isnt a means to hold them back, but to encourage the leadership to
follow the monthly planned programs and not push the boys through like
they are in an advancement mill.
Scouting is to be experienced. Not see how fast we can get the boys to
the next level.
Just my .02 cents from a parent that has seen it happen both ways.
