Re; National Summertime Pack Award Pin and Placement

Hiya Scouters!
Hope your Turkey Day and weekend has went great!! I finally got my
computer repaired (I'm talking EVERYTHING I can do; the CD-ROM
player still needs some work and I'll have to consult someone
outside to get it fixed!) and I'm REALLY ready to go now!!
(Most of my Scouting files have been on removable diskettes, and I
couldn't access any of them until very early this morning!)
Last week, we were talking about the Cub Scout's National
Summertime Pack Award pin. This is a gold-colored pin about the
size of the Bobcat pin and which the youth membership of the Pack
receives if the Pack earns the honor.
And EVERY Pack should earn this honor.
We were talking about how many can be worn and where it is worn.
I wrote that it makes sense for ALL of them (if a Pack earned five
while that Cub was a member of that Pack, to wear all five in a row
on the uniform shirt) to be worn. Not so, says the most recent
edition of the Cub Scout Leader Guide. I don't have a 1998
printing, but several Scouters do and have shared the page with us
all....thanks!!
Remember, however, that a local Council CAN alter that and allow
Cub Scouts to wear more than one on the uniform shirt. So please
ASK *your local Council* if your Pack wants to have all of its
membership to wear the pins on the uniform...most Councils don't
have a problem with this. But the Leaders's Guide is what we
should be following, and it says ONE AT A TIME ONLY.
Also, I wrote earlier about the "temporary and "permanance" of
insignia on the right pocket. The World Conservation Award is a
TEMPORARY AWARD, not a permanent one, and what I was referring to
was the "permanance" of wearing the patch on the uniform (sewn onto
the shirt is what I should have stated!) as opposed to the WEBELOS
Compass Points or the Cub Scout Progress Toward Ranks emblems,
which are designed to be worn suspended from the right pocket
button.
Hope this all straigthens the previous posting and brings a little
more clarity to my previous posting!
