Our town has an annual holiday parade on the Saturday after
Thanksgiving. Our troop hasn't participated because of the uncool image
of Boy Scouts. This year I suggested that, instead of wearing our
uniforms we dress in a more activity-based theme, and for the first time
in my memory, we've got about 15 boys interested. Some will ride their
mountain bikes, covered in mud. Some will be in a canoe tied to a
trailer. We hope to have a pioneering tower and campsite set up on the
trailer. Some boys will be in backpacking gear, others in rock climbing
gear with ropes. You get the idea.
We're hoping to show off what we do. Most people already know what we
are.
