Scouting for food.

Our Scouting for food takes place in Central Florida Council on the
first and second weekends of November. The First weekend is to place
the bags on the door of the homes and the second weekend is to collect
the Bags.
We have always had a good sponsor for supplying the bags, we use
plastic because they will handle the water if it is raining and
afterwards we are able to recycle them ...(Publics Super Market for
past several years... and this year Winne Dixie .. Gives them a
chance to get their name out in the public as doing good for the
community.)
Along with the Super Markets we have some public service announcements
made on the local TV and Radio Stations.

We have a Chair for the drive who comes to Roundtable at least 2
months before the event and gets the Troops/Packs in the Districts to
chose an areas that they will work. Most chose an area that they know
and are able to give an approx. amount of bags that they will need .

On distribution day we have several spots around the district where
troops/packs can go and get more bags if they miscalculated.

Pick up day , a week later, the Troops/Packs return to their area and
get the bags... We usually have 2-3 drop off points around the
District where we have "People" from each of the Centers that is to
receive the food , work to separate the food. . The food is separated
and placed in orange grove boxes... (Each box holds about 1000 lb. )
We also get some of the local amateur radio operators of the area
help with communication between the sites so if any problems arise.

I did not get the Grand total for the Council this year yet but in
South Brevard Disrtict we collected about 60 tons of food.

It take a little work but we get a large return..

For the people who say that they are concerned about where the kids
are putting the bags I can only say is that we "STRESS" the
importance of two deep leadereship during the activity and where no to
leave bags .
