Re: Ad Altere Dei ceremony

Mark: I guess I feel sorry for the boy. You mentioned that you had given out
a God & Country award and you could adapt the script. Frankly I think that is
the best idea.

The "ceremony" I have seen associated with Archdiocescan awarding of these
medals was less ceremony and more Catholic ritual. That is, they had hymn
signing and a little scripture reading and some ritual associated with the
Bishop being there, but there was really no explanation of the award or what
the boys had done to earn it.

So if you can grab the boy's book (its about 8 1/2 x 11 and red) and look it
over briefly, you will have an idea what was done. And you can probably give
a better presentation than I have seen done by clergymen.

Notice I didn't say this was a better system, having you give it out rather
than clergymen, merely that you would do a better job. I remain a believer in
BSA-Church separation. The medal from church- the knot from the troop.

Good Luck friend.

Yours in Scouting

G. John Marmet
